Code: 016392

A message of kindness, love and mercy. 1948. Aurora Marin arrives at the convent of the Canossian Sisters of Schio, where Sister Bakhita has just died, and recalls the incredible life of the woman that had raised her. Born in a village in Sudan, kidnapped by slavers and sold to Marin, a Venetian merchant, Bakhita becomes the nanny of Aurora, who had lost her mother at birth. Violently opposed by the peasants and the other servants, Bakhita embraces the catholic faith thanks to the village priest, but Marin doesn’t want to give her up, tracks her down and pretends her back. It will lead to a court case that raised an uproar and to Bakhita’s decision to become a nun. Pope John Paul II, in 2000, will declare her a saint.
