On a trip to Rome, Niccolò falls in love with Giorgia, promising the girl, who was abused as child, that she can have a job at his family's ceramics plant in Tuscany. But when Giorgia, having discovered she is pregnant, travels to the small town, she learns that Niccolò has died, while his brother Alessio wants nothing to do with her. Giorgia stays and, with the support of those in the family and the town who oppose the brother's plans for the factory, struggles to protect her unborn child's heritage.
