One of the most important cultural events of twentieth century was the rediscovery of Leonardo's masterpiece, "the Last Supper", after a restoration effort that lasted twenty years. It was an extremely difficult job, entailing an enormous responsibility, and it was the only restoration that used a microscope. Many fragments of the original fresco were recovered after decades of pollution, especially in the 70's, had cover them over.
