The Mediterranean is a sea of very ancient formation, as exemplified by the marine fossils still found on the Alps. A direct descendant of Thetys, the primeval Ocean dividing the two massive continental blocks of our planet, today the Mediterranean is a small sea, whose only link to planetary oceanography is the narrow Straits of Gibraltar. It is a unique sea, with an extraordinary wealth of flora and fauna, but also with a very delicate balance because of its isolation from the other seas. In this ideal voyage through the waves, we will discover its history and meet its protagonists: today more than ever the Mediterranean needs our care and attention.
