Maurizio, a young ecologist always at the front line in denouncing any crime against the animals, is found murdered during a farm holiday in Matera. The first to be suspected is Sam the cook, due to his criminal past. Even if Sam is soon cleared by the police, he gets involved in a risky and informal investigation by a strange friend of the victim named Zen. Zen is convinced that the murder was committed by smugglers addicted to traffic in animals and in a useless remedy extracted by bear’s bile at the cost of tremendous suffering for such a protected animal.
