In this production, a royal procession crossing Milan will be broadcast on giant screens inside and outside the theatre; at the end of the opera it will storm La Scala’s stage. Luca Ronconi’s take on Il viaggio a Reims by Rossini, with sets and costumes by Gae Aulenti, is returning for five performances. The opera shows Rossini’s avant-garde spirit, who conceived this masterful “play within a play” in the 19th century.
