Arunmozhi, an Indian film director, searches amidst the confusion and chaos of modern day Madras for an inspirational idea for his next film. When he finds himself in front of a statue of the androgynous God, Ardanari, half man half woman, the sexual ambiguity of the figure arouses his curiosity. He begins a journey to research this new idea, and he meets Shardha, a young eunuch, whose life story becomes the basis for the film.
