Mangala Tamasha Party is a 52 minute documentary, on one of India’s most well-known Tamasha dancer. Mangala Bansode, at 50, heads a tamasha troupe of 150 people. She provides unique entertainment to the rural areas of India, replacing their thirst for films and entertainment. Tamasha, which means fun or entertainment, is one of the foremost folk theatres in Maharashtra. Tamasha is performed on makeshift stages called tambus. An important part of Tamasha is “Lavani” the dance. Lavani the seductive dance is a traditional folk dance of Maharashtra. Over the years Lavani was incorporated in Tamasha.
