The Lazio Region is one of the most important realities within the Italian system because of its artistic and cultural historical value, as well as for its technological innovations, its expertise, and the attention it places towards quality and the development of entrepreneurship and production.
A journey of discovery of its artistic heritage through the organisation of exhibitions and the conservation, protection and salvaging of the restoration works that make of Lazio, with 10 million entries and 28 million presences throughout the year, a top national tourist destination and one of the leading international destinations.
Lazio has also been divided and organised into industrial districts. These are territorial areas characterised by an elevated concentration of small enterprises, a system in which the Region has, for the period 2008 to 2010, invested 23 million Euro.
In order to achieve excellence and to distinguish itself in results of quality and quantity, the Lazio Region has invested into research and innovation. Thanks to its intense entrepreneurial activity and to an agreement with the Ministries and major companies, it has focussed on the development, improvement and productivity of the aerospace technology sector, the biosciences, the electronics industry, the nautical industry, as well as of those sectors with an ancient tradition, such as the ceramics of the Viterbo area and the smaller handicraft industries from the Tuscia area, attaining an image of excellence worldwide.
Of great importance to this Region is also the audiovisual production industry, as the Rome Film Festival confirms - a Film Festival that has achieved the same level as international competitions such as Cannes, Berlin and Venice - and the Roma Fiction Fest that in its second edition has seen the submission of almost 200 titles, a total of approximately 700 hours of programming and the presence of 36.000 viewers and 4.000 accredited amongst press and experts in this sector.
Today, with 50% of the national public spending and 10% of private spending going into Research & Development, Lazio occupies a prominent position in the national scene. With 2% of the GDP destined to expenses it represents a peak of excellence that does have no other equal in this country.
